God Bless Amurrrricaaa!!!!

Party in the U.S.A.

A bit of architectural nerdery

The Monadnock Building. Chicago, IL, built in 1884-85 and 1889-92 by Burnham and Root.

What an incredible building. Built when skyscrapers and steel framed buildings were just taking off, the Monadnock is an all masonry built throwback, not to mention the tallest solid masonry building in the country. It was commissioned by two brothers who did not trust this newfangled stuff called steel, so they insisted on masonry construction. It's abstract, barely detailed, and seems so modern.

Do you like magazines?

Heck yes! Who doesn't? Are you kinda cheap? Then the interwebs has come up with a solution! Online magazines!
Here are a few of my favorites:
Matchbook Magazine: http://matchbookmag.com/
Lonny Magazine, heir to the much missed Domino: http://www.lonnymag.com/issues/16-march-april-2011-issue/pages/1
High Gloss: http://www.highglossmagazine.com/

I hear having an iPad makes them really good!

Call me crazy...

But who doesn't want a stump for a stool? Kartell Stump Stool Or a matching gnome table? Kartell Gnome Table. If i had a magical, woodland garden, I'd totally put these things out there!

Note to self...

It is not a good idea to ride your bike whilst wearing a dress that is both short and tight. The good people of New Orleans will see your bits... on a Sunday. Whoops.
